We’re seeing incredible growth in the use of video to capture and document what happens in the world around us. As inexpensive, easy-to-use video recording technologies continue to evolve, the potential is extraordinary!  ABC.

I’ve heard seasoned video professionals suggest that the only really worthwhile video is video that “tells a story.” I have to disagree since I’m fascinated by the use of video for capturing and sharing what happens when reality just plays out in front of our eyes….

This video was shot with a Kodak Zi6 camera using Macro focus mode and the HD capture setting. There are many similar tools for getting close up. Here is a video from Tim Teelin, Computer Resource Teacher at Fayetteville-Manlius Elementary School in New York State, where he shows how to record and project video from a microscope. 

Tim uses a standard issue microscope and document camera along with document camera software on a Windows PC and a SMART Board to project and record microscopic video.

This is “reality” video that will surely enable today’s students discover, explore, and learn. It is just one example of creative video use where today’s tools are mixed and matched to create a compelling and useful rich media experience.
